Networking is more about forming connections with new contacts than hunting for them. People want to do business with people they know and trust. It’s about cultivating those relationships.

Today Russ talked to us about having a power team. They are beneficials in terms of referrals. BNI is known as the holy grail of power team. Members of a power team are more closely knit that those on the outside. They are reciprocal referral partners who work with the same client but with different services. There is a common level of trust between the members. It is also important to grow the power team. More members means more opportunities to grow relationships – which grows business.

The power of one: February

It was designed to help one specific issue: How does one member easily interpret the data shared during their BNI meeting and understand if their activity is on par or not. The power of one is simply described as a history report of your activities over the past 6 months. So if your score is not quite what you want it to be, remember that activity you have for this month in each column will begin to improve your score next month! This report allows you to understand two things instantaneously:

Are you being active enough to achieve the results you desire?
What areas do you need to be more active in to achieve your goals?

How do you become more effective in your networking’s? You learn the skills. How do we learn the skills? Training and continuous education. BNI gives you access to specific training on how to become more effective in the system.

Members are required to bring bona-fide referrals and/or visitors to their chapter of BNI. Chapters may establish a minimum number of referrals and/or visitors that is acceptable to maintain membership.

We will be defining our current referral spheres that we have and what spheres we are wanting to grow as well as new ones to cultivate.

Today Paul Houck with Houck Outdoor Advertising talked to us about his digital billboard. But before that, Paul was part of Houck Transit Advertising – a business started by his grandfather in 1919. They advertised on cards, street cars, and buses. It is now a 4 generation business where now they are in billboard advertising. Paul has the one in Vadnais Heights and his brother Tom has more in central Minnesota. Categories that are good for digital billboards include automotive – mechanics, repair, towing etc. Another includes house repair. Roofers etc. Painting, landscaping etc. Recreation is also good – ATV’s, RV’s etc. And of course, local businesses. With the digital format, users can easily change their messaging on the fly. For the cost of admission, each users gets 1 flip per minute. In this format, users can run up to 3 messages per minute and rotate them. Or they can change them seasonally. Ads can be run short term (1 month) or long term. Digital billboards is a good way to get your name out there – name recognition and awareness.
