Ray Schmidt got a call 4 years ago to join BNI in Forest Lake. He met 40+ people there and was welcomed very warmly. It took about 6 months to get comfortable and was not referring or getting referrals. But since then has been a valuable venture and has come to know and trust the group.

Russ talked to us about givers gain. It is about putting others first in terms of business and referrals. When we do that, it comes back around. We get to know others and learn to trust them via 1-2-1’s. We get to know them and like them. We use these 1-2-1’s to learn how to refer one another.

It was designed to help one specific issue: How does one member easily interpret the data shared during their BNI meeting and understand if their activity is on par or not. The power of one is simply described as a history report of your activities over the past 6 months. So if your score is not quite what you want it to be, remember that activity you have for this month in each column will begin to improve your score next month! This report allows you to understand two things instantaneously:

Are you being active enough to achieve the results you desire?
What areas do you need to be more active in to achieve your goals?

Visitors – The only way to increase the odds of getting more referrals is to increase your opportunities. The only way to do that is to have more people in the room that are willing to help you. Therefore, you want to expand your contact sphere, to expand your referral opportunities. Even if you never become more effective in what you are doing, you are going to receive more referrals based on more opportunities

BNI Policy
Administrative Policy #10
An individual member cannot be in a second BNI Chapter nor in any other group that allows only one person per profession and whose primary purpose is to pass referrals to one another, because it substantially reduces their commitment to the Chapter members. Membership Committees have full authority in this area.

We will be defining our current referral spheres that we have and what spheres we are wanting to grow as well as new ones to cultivate.

Russ Hanes – Avid outdoorsman. Enjoys all outdoors. Hence the name. Married 15 years and 2 kids. Coaches his kids in various sports. Spent 17 years in law enforcement and 911 dispatcher. This experience helped developed his non-profit – The Invisible Wounds project where he brings awareness to veteran mental health issues. Started marketing and sales in 2016 and started his biz in 2019. He loves to help small biz with their marketing implementation plans.

He talked to us about marketing. He offers big marketing solutions for small business. In other words, he gives access to the same tools that the big businesses uses but at an affordable rate. Such services include social media (posts / ads etc.), google ppc / maps listing / reviews and rep mngt, content development. Brand development starts with a website (Bob can help). From there is geographically targeted digital and social media marketing and analytics to find and engage with the target market. Also direct mail and email marketing. Great referrals include restaurants, service providers, retail, hotels, non profits and new businesses.
